Frequently asked questions
Can I file ITR-1 if I have capital gains?
Only long-term gains under section 112A up to ₹1.25 lakh can be reported in ITR-1. Any other capital gain needs ITR-2.
Is Form 16 mandatory to file ITR-1?
No. You can file using salary slips and AIS, but Form 16 makes it easier to match TDS and deductions.
Which tax regime should I choose?
The new regime is the default. Compare tax under both regimes with your actual deductions before filing; your CA can do this in minutes once the documents are in.
This checklist is general guidance for collecting documents and is not tax advice. Requirements change with notifications and circulars; check the latest rules or ask your CA.
